An amazing tribal piece woven by the Turkic Qashqai tribes. As nomads, their primary resource is wool, which is why they weave their rugs on a wool foundation—both warp and weft—unlike village and urban weavers who have access to cotton or silk for these elements. The result is rugs like this, with a softer handle and an exceptional texture. This particular piece was woven in the 1950s and features one of the most iconic and archetypal Mesopotamian symbols—the eight-pointed star—whose origins can be traced back to the Babylonian period.
100% wool, Hand knotted rug.
