Red apples in central Asia are the equivalents of red roses in the west. The girls or boys timidly present directly or indirectly red apples to their beloved. In the case of this rug the weaver, a young tribal girl, has made her declaration of love through weaving stylized apple. Ironically the apples here could be likened to hearts as well.
