Such rugs are famous as the "Dragon Rugs". To many scholars, according to the myths, the "S" like motives are stylized dragons, a symbol of power.
The design is originated in Caucasus and popular with the the Shahsavan weavers.
The piece here is an extremely fine "sumak" representing the "Drago Design". The tasteful weaver has used fine wool and silk threads to weave this marvellous piece.
