A Baluch rug Number 850239 (270x195cm)

Baluchi weavers of western Afghanistan are well known for the particular weaving technique that they have employed in this rug. The weavers put two totally different techniques, pile knotting and flat weaving to create a hybrid as the example here. This is a method that requires experience and artistic hands.

Using dual technique creates a 3D effect that together with the richness of colours and the lustrous wool results in beautiful pieces such as this one here.

These carpets are classified as nomadic and large pieces like the one here are harder to find.

Wool on wool. Circa 1960s.
