Gabbeh are nomadic creations that have become widely popular for their weavers’ simple, honest approach—bordering on modern art. The one here is a charming example. It features handspun yarn produced by the Qashghai weavers themselves, dyed using natural materials they gather while moving from one camp to another. The rug reflects the taste of young Qashghai women, especially in their choice of colours—an aesthetic sensibility acquired through centuries of living and travelling in the beautiful valleys of the Zagros Mountains.
