A Qashghai "Rend" rug, No. 171245-330x114cm

171245 | 330 × 114 cm
Wool, natural dyes

This rug is woven in a rare variation of the sumak technique, known as rend among the Qashghai nomads of the Fars region. Today, only a handful of weavers remember this method, making surviving examples exceedingly scarce. That alone sets this piece apart.

It was most likely crafted by a tasteful and culturally rooted weaver, someone who valued tradition deeply enough to seek out an elder still versed in the old ways. Though simple and minimalistic in design, the rug is remarkable for its texture and construction.

The proportion of the size is a telling sign that it was woven on a traditional horizontal loom, the kind still used in nomadic camps. The result is a rare rug that embodies both historical knowledge and quiet elegance.
