This most charming tribal kilim, in exuberant colours, is the work of free-spirited Qashghai girls whose hands seemed to fly over the loom—translating thoughts and inner feelings into woven form with delightful spontaneity.
These are authentic weavings, made not for sale but for their own families, and are far removed from commercial production. Most Qashghai kilims with such joyful colour combinations and fine quality, like the one here, were created as part of a dowry. They were guarded with affection, treasured by the weaver and her family, and thus often preserved in excellent condition. This particular piece dates to the first half of the 20th century and remains in mint condition.
