A Mashad handmade rug No. 80756

This fabulous carpet is from the ancient city of Mashad in northeast Persia. The area is renowned for producing the best grade of yarn for carpets, in addition to the skills of its weavers in hand-knotting incredible rugs like the piece here.

Mashad carpets last a long time and often have a smooth and silky texture. The rug here is a gorgeous example, and it represents an intricate medallion amidst the array of other details, forming a fantastic Persian classic design.

The carpet has the master-weavers signature on the top border, and it is circa the 1960s.

Wool on a cotton base.
