According to Cecil A. Edwards, when he wrote "The Persian Carpet" in 1948, the design of Josheghan carpets as the one here is between two to four hundred years old. The area's weavers have been staunchly loyal to their ancestral patterns and continue weaving the same in their traditional colour combinations. These rugs have a fantastic quality of wool, generally woven in beautiful shades of red from the roots of madder in the surrounding areas. The dying process is mainly artisanal and done in small batches by weavers, thus the beautiful variation in tones.
Josheghan carpets are vastly popular for their simple geometric and decorative designs. Although the weavers follow their so-called "jungle design", each weaver implements their taste in creating the pattern. Hence, each rug differs from the others and reflects the wearer's personality.
