An Elegant Persian Tabriz design handmade carpet, No. 25606

Close to three million tiny knots were meticulously woven over the course of a year by two skilled weavers to create this marvellous classic Persian carpet. The result is a masterpiece of captivating beauty, featuring a timeless, intricate pattern. The design centres around a medallion that takes the form of a stylised, fully bloomed flower, with each surrounding motif gracefully drawn towards the centre, where the complete floral form resides. This exquisite balance and symmetry would not have been possible without the precision and consistency in the size of each knot.

The vibrant red field is beautifully bordered by deep navy and ivory tones, framed by an elaborate, intricate border that perfectly complements the central design. The overall composition is harmonious, with colours that will settle and mellow gracefully over time, enhancing the rug's charm and appeal.

The design can be classified as a Shah Abbasi pattern, named after the Safavid king Shah Abbas I of the 17th century, who was a great patron of the arts. It is believed that this popular design was first conceived during his reign, under his auspices, and it reflects the timeless elegance and artistic legacy of Persian craftsmanship.

This rug is made of fine "Kurk" wool and silk on a cotton base.
